Brother HL-1270
The Brother HL-1270 is a rather dated printer, although if you are running older technology in a business setting and don’t mind the reduced numbers, than this might be a solid purchase. The printer only functions on Windows 3.1-98 and on Macs running operating systems before OS X, so chances are if you have updated in recent years, this printer is just not suitable for your needs. But if you want an inexpensive printer that is able to perform adequate tasks, it is work a second look.
The printer only produces black and gray scale documents, at a speed of up to 12 pages per minute. This isn’t very fast, especially by today’s standards, but when running older equipment you shouldn’t have an issue. There is a 45 second warm up time, common for older devices, so make sure to turn on the printer a few minutes before use.
The Brother HL-1270 connects to a computer via parallel port, although it does have a USB 1.1 connection. This allows the printer to connect to most computers via the USB port, although older Windows based devices must use the serial connection. You can print directly from your e-mail though, as it has built in software for this process, and you don’t have to worry about running out of paper, as it holds 250 sheets, which is half a ream. On top of this, there are five different printing size formats, should you need to print in a different size, such as on an envelope or business card. So when working in a small office setting, that has older equipment, this might just be perfect. This is often found in warehouse and shipping locations, which use the older equipment as the shipping software still runs on the older hardware, allowing you to save money.
